Angels 'n Camouflage

Angels 'n Camouflage was founded in late 2002 on the belief that "No Veteran will be left standing at 'Mail Call' with empty hands nor empty hearts." Whether it be a mere card or a 'forget-me-not' package, our Angels have committed their lives making sure the Veterans and Troops in our Program will never have to spend another day alone and forgotten. In a Society where one is quick to forget what these men and women have done for our Country, the sacrifices they made and continue to make to this day.... it is heart wrenching to realize that as a Society we have failed them. No matter what war or conflict they served in, they all share one common thing; they may have left the war but the war has not left them. Just as our Military in Iraq are finding out now, once they hit American soil after a deployment, life as they once knew it is never the same.

Whether our Veterans are deployed overseas, in group homes, VA hospitals, Incarcerated or on the streets, they can be rest assured in knowing that there will always be an Angel 'n Camouflage looking out for them. But we cannot do it alone! We are all Angels 'n Camouflage.... even though one might not be able to commit to adopting a deployed Service Member, Veteran or Wounded, there are so many areas of need where you can make a difference! We are always in need of donations to supply emergency back packs to our homeless Veterans or purchase items such as CD Players, board games, stamps, phone cards, snacks, and books for Veterans and Troops. One can never fully appreciate these items unless they've had to do without them, which is often the case with our Heroes. There is also a huge need for Sponsors willing to sponsor our 'Operation Wish Lists' and 'Operation First Responders' Programs.

Armed Forces Service Center

The Armed Forces Service Center is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization located at the MSP Airport, since November 22, 1970. The Center serves as an oasis for "active duty" military personnel and dependents. As well as, Reservists, National Guard, DoD and PHS (on any orders), as they travel through the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. The Center is open 24/7, three hundred and sixty-five days a year ... to make sure our doors are never closed to a serviceperson in need of food, shelter or assistance.

The Armed Forces Service Center is not a "USO." Our one-of a-kind facility is unique to Minnesota, we rely on our funding from various veterans organizations, their auxiliaries, as well as, private organization and individuals. The AFSC was founded by Maggie Purdum, as a tribute to those who serve -- after her son died in Vietnam. In November 2005, we celebrated our 35th Anniversary and, 700,000th military guest.

On September 11, 2001, we were able to provide this valuable service to "sixteen" Marines stranded at the MSP Airport for five days -- when all flights were grounded. The Center offers a variety of complimentary food, beverages, TV (w/CNN), a fax machine/printer/copier, two computers with high speed Internet access, phones cards, a bathroom, toiletries, magazines and separate sleeping bunks for servicemen and servicewomen.

Buddy Bowl

The Buddy Bowl was founded in 1977 in San Diego, CA as a fun way to annually reunite friends who had a common interest in playing football. In 1999 the Buddy Bowl’s focus changed from simply a reunion of friends to that of raising money for a worthy cause. In June of 2003 Buddy Bowl Inc. was incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation dedicated to raising money for military, law enforcement, and children’s related charities through the annual flag football tournament.

The Buddy Bowl is unique because it is the only annual event in the U.S. that raises money for military and law enforcement personnel and their families through a community based flag football tournament that includes both physically challenged and able-bodied participants.

Coalition to Salute America's Heroes

Founded in 2004 the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes is partnering with corporate sponsors, individual contributors, and volunteers to provide an easy and meaningful way for individuals and corporations to help these veterans and their families rebuild their lives. You can help by means of direct tax-deductible donations, participating in programs that raise money, giving your time, as well as corporate sponsorships. Ninety-one percent of all money contributed goes directly to service-members and their families. Elks Veterans Leather Program

The Elks National Veterans Service Commission is the major source of hides and tanned leather used for recreational and occupational therapy throughout the Veterans Administration health care system. Elks Leather has become a national by-word among veteran patients everywhere.

Time between visits from friends and families can make hospitalization a drudgery for our veterans. Leather provides a form of relief by keeping minds active as well as providing exercise for injured and unused muscles. Veterans often enter wallets, clothing, belts and moccasins in Arts and Crafts shows sponsored by the Elks.

Recently, a program was initiated by Elks whereby tanned leather is cut and sewn into specially designed gloves which are furnished to veterans confined to wheelchairs, thereby protecting their hands during movement.

Hero Hugs

Our Heroes.....American Soldiers! American soldiers are men and women who serve their country with pride and honor. They often leave their homes, families and friends and go to far away places to make the world a better for kids everywhere just like us! They are sons and daughters, husbands and wives; and perhaps most importantly, moms and dads. Our American soldiers are ordinary people who take on extraordinary tasks. They are always willing to serve and protect no matter when or where that may be. Our soldiers deserve to know we appreciate them and the sacrifice they make for our country and our world, even when we don't agree with what they were called to do. Our mission is to make sure as many soldiers as possible know someone back home is thinking of them because.......Every hero deserves a hug!

Southeastern Guide Dogs' Paws for Patriots program

Southeastern Guide Dogs offers the Paws for Patriots™ Program for veterans who have been blinded during their service in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The program also offers therapy and companion dog placements to returning injured soldiers through Southeastern’s Gifted Canines® program.

To meet the growing demand for our services among veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, we have joined forces with General Tommy Franks. General Franks is the spokesperson for the program, and is featured in both a radio and television public service announcement in support of the initiative. A Southeastern Guide Dog costs about $40,000, from birth through training, before being matched with its partner.

Since our founding in 1982, Southeastern Guide Dogs has been a proud supporter of American veterans. Over the past 23 years our expertise in training guide dogs to work with people who have multiple disabilities has led many disabled veterans to seek our services. There is no cost to our veterans for either a Southeastern guide dog or a Gifted Canines dog. The Paws for Patriots Program, like all of Southeastern Guide Dogs' programs, is funded exclusively through the generosity of private individuals, civic organizations, foundations and corporations.
