Defense Alliance of Minnesota
The Defense Alliance is committed to retaining and growing additional defense and homeland security related jobs, businesses, and research and development (R&D) initiatives in the state by promoting policies, programs and organizations that lead to greater awareness of Minnesota as a place to turn for solutions and value for our nation’s defense needs. The Defense Alliance believes that defense and homeland security businesses and R&D are strong contributors to economic development across a wide range of industries, particularly for high-tech and dual-use technologies.
The Defense Alliance is dedicated to making the state of Minnesota “Veteran friendly,” through laws, policies, benefits and programs that help to attract and retain Veterans to the state, and that positively affect Veteran-owned businesses, and businesses that hire Veterans. The Defense Alliance believes that the state does not just owe its Veterans, it needs its Veterans. Those who have served in our armed forces have skills, disciplines and life experiences that positively contribute to our communities and to economic development, particularly for businesses that contribute to the defense and homeland security effort.
Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense organization. It is a staff group within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs (OASD/RA), which is in itself a part of the Office of the Secretary of Defense. ESGR was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment. It is the lead DoD organization for this mission under DoD Directive 1250.1.
Military Reservist Economic Injury Disaster Loan (MREIDL)
Small Businesses that are owned by military reservists (National Guard and Reserve Members) and/or small businesses that employ military reservists called to active duty may qualify for Military Reservist Economic Injury Disaster Loans (MREIDL).
Minnesota WorkForce Centers
Minnesota WorkForce Centers (WFCs) provide the tools, resources and services needed for job search, career planning and training needs. WorkForce Centers are a collaboration of partners, including the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and local community agencies. People seeking work, businesses seeking employees, students, and those looking for a first job or returning to the workforce, will find services to meet their needs, offered at no cost. Each WFC houses a Resource Area that operates similarly to a public library.
Minnesota Veterans Licensure and Certification Program
This MN Dept. of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) program tracks many business opportunities available to businesses who hire / employ veterans and veterans interested in self-employment.
The Veterans Corporation
The National Veterans Business Development Corporation, doing business as The Veterans Corporation, is a Federally-chartered 501(c)(3) organization that was created by Public Law 106-50, the Veterans Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development Act of 1999. This Act recognized that America “has done too little to assist Veterans…in playing a greater role in the economy of the United States". The Corporation is charged with creating and enhancing entrepreneurial business opportunities for Veterans, including Service-Disabled Veterans.
