This is a listing of Minnesota specific items to assist with veterans employment.
MN Dept. of Employment and Economic Development - Veterans Services
Minnesota's Veterans Employment Representatives work with local businesses and veterans to provide the items listed below. Call 1.888.GETJOBS and ask to speak with a Veterans Employment Representative.
- Individual, intensive employment assistance
- In-person orientation to Minnesota WorkForce Center services
- Job search information, resume assistance, cover letters, job search videos
- Eligibility determination for special programs and services to employ and train veterans. Veterans with disabilities from the military may apply for vocational rehabilitation services.
- Information and assistance on licensure, certification and apprenticeships
- Information on veterans employment benefits, rights and preferences
- Instruction and training on using the internet for job searches
- Information on how to apply for Federal, State and County positions
- Direct referral to job openings
- Information and referral to appropriate agencies and services Information on Transition Assistance Workshops (TAP)

Minnesota WorkForce Centers
Minnesota WorkForce Centers (WFCs) provide the tools, resources and services needed for job search, career planning and training needs. WorkForce Centers are a collaboration of partners, including the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and local community agencies. People seeking work, businesses seeking employees, students, and those looking for a first job or returning to the workforce, will find services to meet their needs, offered at no cost. Each WFC houses a Resource Area that operates similarly to a public library.
Minnesota Veterans Licensure and Certification Program
This program assists with cutting the time and frustration commonly associated with obtaining licenses, certification and apprenticeships for Veterans. There are many resources on this site to help veterans.
Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST)
The is a military reciprocity with the POST if you have served in the U.S. Military for at least 5 years in a military police capability.
State of Minnesota
Information about employment with the State of Minnesota is found on the MN Department of Employee Relations website. Veterans considering employment with the State of Minnesota should also view the "Veterans Preference in Hiring" information at www.mdva.state.mn.us/vetspref.htm.
Veterans Preference in Hiring
Minnesota statue provides veterans a limited preference over non-veterans in hiring and promotions for most Minnesota public employment positions. The definition defines public employment as "civil service laws, charter provisions, ordinances, rules or regulations of a county, city , town, school district, or other municipality or political subdivision of this state".
